Safety in the Use of Abrasive Wheels
The Programme
This course covers the requirements under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations pertaining to the storage, choice, fitting, use and maintenance of abrasive wheels.
The course is aimed at anyone in employment who has the responsibility of fitting and using all types of abrasive wheels including cutting and grinding discs. It provides an in depth knowledge of the following areas:
Hazards and risks arising from the use of abrasive wheels;
Methods of marking abrasive wheels;
How to store, handle and transport abrasive wheels;
The functions of all the components used with abrasive wheels;
How to assemble abrasive wheels correctly;
Dressing an abrasive wheel;
The correct adjustment of the work rest either pedestal or bench grinding machines;
The use of suitable personal protective equipment.
At the end of the course, each candidate will be required to carry out a short written exam and will also be assessed on their practical competence on mounting and balancing a grinding wheel.
