Asbestos Awareness
The Programme
This course provides an awareness and development of knowledge to site based employees of the hazards and risks posed by Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) within the working environment, as well as an overview of the legislative measures in place.
Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations places a duty on employers to ensure that any employee who is liable to be exposed to asbestos receives adequate training. It is a legal requirement from the HSE that anyone working on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000 should receive training, as Asbestos could be present.
The training is designed for delegates working in construction, facilities and maintenance industries. The syllabus covers the following topics:
What is asbestos?
The health effects of asbestos
Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM)
Asbestos in buildings
Current legislation
The asbestos removal process
Safe working practices
Control measures and protective equipment
It is estimated that over two million workplaces contain asbestos, which remains the single biggest cause of work related deaths in the UK. Each week approximately 20 tradesmen die from this hidden killer.
The course will provide an overview of the legislative measures in place to safeguard individuals and others affected by work activities. Upon successful completion of this course candidates shall receive a certificate.
