Work Based Recorder
The Programme
Work Based Recorders should be competent in terms of their knowledge and understanding of the practical work undertaken by trainees. Appropriate evidence from the workplace is essential to gain a vocational qualification or apprenticeship framework.
Work based recorders cannot carry out formal assessments themselves, but they are vital links between assessors and candidates. They are nominated by their employer to verify the evidence trainees are providing from the workplace on the standard and quality of work completed. Work based recorders will be known by the assessor, who will be confident of their ability to help decide if a candidate is competent.
The work based recorder will:
Regularly observe the candidate's performance at the workplace;
Check that the candidate carries out safe working practices and meets the quality of work required;
Sign and date the candidate's evidence to verify its authenticity;
Liaise with the assessor on the candidate's performance;
Ensure whenever possible that the candidate is being given every chance to gain the required work experience;
Represent the views of the company in the assessment process.
