Integrated Work Skills Programme Foundation Learning - Barnstaple

The Programme
The course provides two days of study for 19 to 24 year old students with learning disabilities. The two days will focus on work development and skills development. The programme of study supports and compliments practical experiences. Students who are over 25 will pay course fees.
The Programme Content
Students are given the opportunity to follow a practical qualification which offers transferable skills. These skills and qualifications tend to be in the area of environmental and conservation studies and practical art and craft. Projects include working with the Coast and Countryside Agency maintaining public amenity areas, ceramics, printing, basic woodwork and furniture renovation.
Entry Requirements
Students need to be able to study at entry level in a practical programme. They need to have a mature attitude and show commitment towards their study to complete the necessary qualifications. Independence is encouraged and supported depending on students' specific learning needs. To support their learning, students are encouraged to undertake voluntary work for a few hours a week when not at college.
Costs
For students aged between 19 and 24 years old, on a progression pathway and with learning disabilities, there are no tuition fees. Students over 25 years old will be told the cost of fees for the year and the cost of the exam fees at enrolment.

We work with external agencies to maximise the opportunities for supported employment.
Length of Study
One academic year. The course runs on a Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 4.30pm.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
Further Information
It’s really good because you get to go on residentials and you get to experience catering. You get to do painting, decorating and woodwork.
