The Programme
Students will learn assistant therapist skills including a range of treatments for the face, hands and feet. You will contribute to salon health and safety, team work and positive working relationships and will have the opportunity to build skills and work experience in our salons by undertaking reception, dispensary duties and assisting other therapists. Alongside the beauty therapy training, students will get the chance to improve their personal skills, English, Maths and ICT.
The Programme Content
The course is divided into three distinct qualifications.
- Beauty Therapy Certificate:
Follow health and safety in the salon
Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
Providing basic manicure treatment
Providing Basic Pedicure Treatment
Skin care
Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
Basic Make-up Application
Themed Face Painting
- Personal development covering development of self confidence, personal health and well being, money managment and achievement of goals.
- Functional skills to improve and develop skills in English, Maths and ICT, to enable progression onto to higher level courses.
The qualifications are assessed through the building of a portfolio of work from assignments, written tasks, practical assessments and short tests.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but a good understanding of Maths, English and Science will be of benefit. Good personal presentation skills and a commitment to learning are also important.
Costs
Salon uniform, personal equipment and books required will cost approximately £300. All printing, educational visits, manufacturer diploma short courses and other activities are paid by you*.

Progression
Excellent progress and performance on this course can lead to entry on to the Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma or Level 2 in Hairdressing. Alternatively you may seek employment as an assistant beautician or receptionist.
Length of Study
One year.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
