The Programme

This is an introductory programme in IT. The aim is to give you a broad knowledge of IT systems and also to develop the personal qualities you will need to be a successful IT professional. The course has eight units which cover a range of IT subjects and will also improve your skills at finding employment. All units must be achieved to gain a pass. Higher grades can also be achieved (Merit or Distinction).

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but you must be enthusiastic in the use of IT and you must be willing to develop the written and verbal skills to communicate your understanding of IT.

Costs

Access to a home computer will be very useful. A memory stick will allow you to transport your work to and from home.

Progression

You may progress to a Level 2 course such as the BTEC First Diploma for ICT Practitioners, and then on to a Level 3 course, such as the BTEC National Diploma.

With further training or study, students go into careers such as; Trainee Web Designer, Trainee Programmer, Trainee IT Technician (Working in Networks), End User Support (Working on a Help Desk), Technical Manual Writer or IT Trainer.

One year.
