The Programme

The course is a combination of practical lessons in our fully equipped workshops and theory relating to the maintenance and repair of motor cycles. To supplement the programme students will be encouraged to find work placements.

This course introduces the fundamentals of the motorcycles main systems covering engines, transmission, electrical and chassis. It encourages the student to develop skills that are required when working on a modern bike and assists them in starting a career.

The Programme Content

Functional Skills (Literacy, Numeracy and ICT) are also included in the programme.

Entry Requirements

Although there are no minimum grades for entry, students must demonstrate a desire to work in the motorcycle repair industry and wish to progress to an apprenticeship. However it would be an advantage if learners have a good understanding of Maths, Literacy and ICT.

You will need to supply overalls and suitable safety footwear*.

Progression

On successful completion of the Vehicle Maintenance (Motorcycle) Diploma at Level 1 students, can progress to an apprenticeship in a garage, working towards their National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2.

Length of Study

One year.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
