The Programme
For those seeking a career in mechanical engineering. This is a practical course but you must be prepared to write reports on your work. You will also study basic computer skills.
The Programme Content
Programme content includes; working in engineering technology, machining by milling, machining by turning. Computer Literacy and IT (CLAIT); file management, spreadsheets and databases. Functional Skills and communication.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade E or above. This can be relaxed in certain circumstances and will be discussed at interview.
Costs
There are no anticipated extra costs but some work will done on computer and you will probably need a memory stick.

Barnstaple Campus
Progression
This course is the first stage on an engineering career. You are advised to continue studying to Level 3 or to take up an engineering Apprenticeship (you will need to find a job to do this). Level 3 study options include National Award in Engineering, AS Engineering, AS Electronics, AS Design and Technology.

One year.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.

Some of us are from previous courses, some from work, we’ve got to know each other really quickly and get on really well, like we’ve been lifelong friends, in fact for some of us it’s only been 6 weeks.
