The Programme
This course aims to prepare you for a wide variety of careers in public services including the Police Force, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, HM Customs, RNLI, Prison Service, the Armed Forces and Rescue Services.
The Programme Content
The units include Uniformed Public Services Employment, Public Service Skills, Uniformed Public Service Fitness, The Value of Sport and Recreation in the Public Services, Land Navigation with Map, Compass and Expedition Skills. You will be given the opportunity to develop leadership skills, teamwork, fitness and self confidence. We are looking for learners who are interested in a public service, are enthusiastic, have a positive work ethic and be able to smile even when they may be wet and muddy. If successful at attaining the extended certificate you may have the opportunity to complete the Diploma.
Entry Requirements
Four GSCEs at grade E or above, including English and Maths.
Costs
There will be a chance to buy a Petroc sports kit (optional). Personal outdoor kit will also be essential such as walking boots, a full set of waterproofs and a rucksack. A one off payment is made at the beginning of the course and helps towards small residentials and transport costs*.

Progression
On completion students often enlist into the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Army or one of the emergency services. Others go into civilian employment or progress to the Level 3 course at Petroc.

One year.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
