Art and Design (Graphic Design) A Level - Barnstaple

Course code: FTB052

The Programme

This is a practical course including graphic design/illustration skills, research, creative thinking and the development of ideas and final outcomes. This is achieved through a combination of short design exercises and the encouragement to produce individual solutions to set briefs.

The Programme Content

Both the AS and A2 Levels are modular programmes made up of coursework and an externally set assignment which includes a timed piece for both levels. Students are encouraged to work individually and evolve their own solutions through discussion and exploration.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including a creative subject.

Costs

You will need to buy some basic equipment such as a memory stick and an A3 sketchbook at the beginning of the course which will cost approximately £25. There will be a studio fee to cover the cost of basic materials of £30 per year*.

Progression

Many students will choose to progress to the Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design but some will go directly on to a specialist degree course in art and design, either at Petroc or elsewhere.

Length of Study

AS Level one year. A Level two years.
