The Programme
This programme is equivalent to one A Level and looks at Childrens' Care, Learning and Development across a broad band of age groups. The programme is based in college and local placements including working in nurseries, schools and with children who have additional needs. It is a fast moving programme and you will need to produce coursework as well as working effectively in practice.
The Programme Content
You will study five units over two years giving you a snap shot of what working with children entails as well as gaining 60 hours voluntary work experience during your time at college.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above. Ideally this will include English and Maths and also depend on other subjects you are hoping to study at this time. You will need to have an acceptable Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check and complete a Fitness to Train questionnaire at interview.
Costs
Travel costs to and from work experience placement, appropriate clothing, a memory stick supplied by college with coursework and curriculum guidance on, appropriate text books and a CRB check costing approximately £55.

Progression
Along with other A Levels this qualification can help to gain a place on the Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies here at Petroc or many students choose to become Primary/Secondary school teachers or go into other careers such as nursing, midwifery or social care.

Two years.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
CRB Checks
Due to the nature of the course, a CRB check is required at induction of the course.
