Engineering A Level - Barnstaple

The Programme
At AS Level you will critically evaluate the design of everyday items for functionality, materials, manufacturing processes and legal/environmental constraints. You will design and manufacture a solution to a real life problem.
The Programme Content
At A2 Level you will investigate the mechanical, electrical, electronic, structural and control systems involved in producing environmentally sound engineered products. You will design, manufacture and test a solution to a complex real life problem.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, ideally including engineering, manufacturing or design technology. In certain circumstances this may be relaxed.
Costs
You may wish to purchase your own safety clothing. There may be some costs for materials (not expected to be more than £30). A memory stick to store your work would be useful*.

Progression
After successfully completing the first year we would hope that you will go on to the second year A2 Level. This will contribute to the entry requirements for university.
Length of Study
AS Level one year, A Level two years (A2 Level is offered subject to minimum student numbers).
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
