Environmental Studies A Level - Tiverton

The Programme
This is a stimulating course that will develop your skills in the analysis and solution of complex real world problems. You will study the interaction of humans and the environment.
At AS Level there are two modules. Module 1 looks at how the other living things on the planet are threatened by human activities and how they can be protected. Module 2 looks at the issues around global warming.
The Programme Content
The A2 Level course (year two) has a further two modules. Module 1 looks at the global effects of energy supply and at how farming, fishing and forestry supply our growing needs and cause us problems. Module 2 looks at the origin, movement and effects of pollutants and waste.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including Additional Science. A grade B in Additional Science is recommended but is not essential.
Costs
There are field trips throughout the two years which are not compulsory but are highly recommended. They cost less than £5 each. You must buy a copy of the text book at a cost of £24*.

Progression
There are many Environmental Science degrees and Higher National Diplomas. People with degrees in this subject often go on to work for The Environment Agency, nature conservation organisations, local government, education and private industry. Some people work predicting the likely behaviour of pollutants, some track the use and conservation of water and some monitor butterflies! Typically, people start their careers working on hands on projects before they move on to work in a more managerial role.

AS Level one year, A Level two years.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
