The Programme
The BTEC National Certificate is an AS equivalent and the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is an A2 equivalent. Both qualifications carry UCAS points needed for progression to University. These courses are ideal for anyone wanting to work in the health or social care sectors in the future. There are no exams in this qualification you are assessed on assignments and course work.
The Programme Content
Over the two years you will cover topics such as:
Communication - how we communicate effectively with various service users
Health, Safety and Security - how hazards are assessed and what health care staff have to do to keep service users and their information safe and secure
Cultural Diversity - how everyone is different with different needs
Lifespan Development - how we develop and grow through the various life stages
Entry Requirements
At least five GCSEs, ideally including English Language at grade C or above. A Specialist Diploma or BTEC Level 2 Diploma, ideally with a higher grade. You may be asked to complete a communication assessment.
Costs
You will need to pay for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check approximately £55. You will need a memory stick, folder, poly pockets, paper and pens*.

Progression
Level 3 qualifications are nationally recognised by employers and also attract UCAS points needed to progress to university.
Length of Study
BTEC National Certificate one year, and the Subsidiary Diploma is a further year.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
CRB Checks
Due to the nature of the course, a CRB check is required at induction of the course.
