The Programme
This course provides a programme of study which involves a wide and stimulating choice of content areas including British, European and world history. You will be involved in discussions, debates, presentations, controversy, problem solving and group work.
The Programme Content
At AS Level students will study a historical theme in breadth, most likely the development of civil rights in the USA between 1945 and 1968 as well as politics and society in the USA from 1968 to 2001. You will also study British history in depth, Britain 1860-1930: the changing position of women and the suffrage question.
At A2 Level students will study a controversial historical period, most likely, Germany from Kaiser to Fuhrer 1900 to 1945 and a coursework based historical enquiry, The making of modern Russia 1856 to 1964.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above in appropriate subjects, including English Language. It is preferred that you have a GCSE grade C or above in History.

Progression
History is a very acceptable subject for most university courses and the specific areas of study for which it prepares students are history, archaeology, law, teaching, librarianship and information science.
The subject is also useful as employers value people who can write with clarity, present a well reasoned argument and assess evidence intelligently.
Length of Study
AS Level one year. A Level two years.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
Further Information
To follow a career in engineering I needed A Levels in both maths and physics which I studied at college. My tutors' support and encouragement throughout my time at college was invaluable in allowing me to achieving my long term goals in education and I am now starting at Airbus in Filton as a Graduate.
