The Programme
The course is aimed at those students who enjoy Mathematics, gained A or A* in their GCSE results and intend to study courses at a higher level with a great deal of Mathematical content, eg Engineering, Astronomy, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Mathematical Physics. Students must have the maturity to study independently with a modest level of support.
The Programme Content
AS Level Further Mathematics enables students to obtain a deeper understanding of the subject by studying the compulsory module Further Pure Mathematics 1. This module covers topics such as series, complex numbers and matrix algebra. You will gain a broader understanding of the range of mathematical subjects through the two extra applied units. Decision Mathematics covers topics such as algorithms, critical path analysis; Linear Programming; Statistics Module 1.
In the second year, Further Pure Mathematics Modules 2 and 3 are studied, together with Statistics Module 2.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above in appropriate subjects. Maths at A* or A is mandatory for this course. You also need to be studying or have completed and passed A Level Mathematics.

Students will be responsible for the costs of textbooks associated with the course.

Progression
AS Level and A2 Level Further Mathematics are valuable, well recognised qualifications for future life; they show you have problem solving skills and logical ordered thinking. Students planning to study Mathematics at university should be aware that an extra AS or A Level in Mathematics is recommended and this course fits that criteria. If you're looking at any form of Engineering or Physics at university, you will be much better prepared with this additional qualification.

AS Level one year, A Level two years.

Further Information
To follow a career in engineering I needed A Levels in both maths and physics which I studied at college. My tutors' support and encouragement throughout my time at college was invaluable in allowing me to achieving my long term goals in education and I am now starting at Airbus in Filton as a Graduate.
