Mathematics A Level - Tiverton

The Programme
This course encourages students to develop their understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment; to develop their abilities to reason logically and recognise incorrect reasoning; to extend your range of mathematical skills and techniques and use them in more difficult, unstructured problems.
The Programme Content
First year core topics include algebra, co-ordinate geometry, sequences and series, an introduction to calculus and an introduction to exponentials and logarithms. Your second year of study builds on topics studied during the first year to increase understanding and add to problem solving techniques.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above in appropriate subjects. A grade B or above in Mathematics at the higher tier is a mandatory requirement for this course.
Costs
Students are required to purchase textbooks at a cost of approximately £35 per year. We strongly recommend you buy a revision guide for each module*.

Progression
This is a valuable, well recognised qualification for future life as it shows you have problem solving skills and logical ordered thinking. On completion you can progress to a mathematics related degree course. A Level Maths is a necessary qualification to study physics or engineering at university.

AS Level one year, A Level two years.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
Further Information
Petroc has really nice, modern facilities including the new gym and the PCs in the learning centre are up-to-date. It is a good friendly environment and a lot of support is offered to those that need it.
