Sport and Physical Education A Level - Barnstaple

The Programme Content
The AS Level looks at the following areas; understanding the body systems and a healthy, active lifestyle, psychological and socio-cultural factors affecting performance and analysis of candidates role as a performer, official and coach. The A2 Level builds on the foundation of the AS Level. The areas covered are physiology and psychology, elite performance development, and practical performance and analysis.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade C or above. We strongly advise that all students enrol in a sports performance academy at Petroc to maximise their opportunity to achieve desired practical grades. Students are required to be actively performing in regular sport.
Costs
You will be required to purchase a textbook costing approximately £20. There will be a proposed residential/practical for which the cost is to be confirmed.

Progression
The course covers a variety of areas which affect sports performance. This enables you to progress to university or a career in the sports industry. Students who combine effective studies with a good standard of external sports performance will have the potential to apply for prestigious sporting universities such as Bath, Loughborough, UWIC or Marjons.
Length of Study
AS Level one year, A Level two years.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
