Access to Higher Education Diploma - Tiverton

The Programme
Access to HE is for adults (learners aged 19 and over) who wish eventually to take a university level course, but who lack the normal entrance requirements for higher education. The course is recognised by universities and other higher education institutions as an alternative to standard A Level entry.
The Programme Content
This is a credit-based qualification. All students take the core parts of the course, which include ICT, Essential Maths or English at level 2 and Study Skills at level 3. In addition, each student chooses two or three options from the following, worth 15 level 3 credits each:
Psychology
Sociology
Health studies
Biology
Literary studies
Cultural studies
Geography
In order to achieve the full Diploma, students must achieve 60 credits over all
Entry Requirements
Students must achieve a level 2 in their Literacy Initial Assessment and a level 1 in their Numeracy Initial Assessment. Students may also be asked to produce a piece of free-writing under controlled conditions.

Progression
Those taking the Diploma go on to take degrees in a wide range of subjects, leading to careers such as nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, para medicine, social work, teaching, music production, digital animation, or in the field of law, geography, zoology, animal behaviour and psychology.
Length of Study
The course is full time, timetabled over four days per week, and completed in one academic year.

This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
