The Programme
This course helps students to make informed decisions about which specialism (eg graphic design, photography, fashion design, textile design, fine art, illustration etc) they wish to follow. Most students then develop a high quality portfolio for successful progression to higher education or employment in the creative industries.
The Programme Content
There are three stages. The exploratory stage in the Autumn term covering four units, the pathway stage in the Spring term working in specialist areas covering three units and the confirmatory stage in the Summer term, producing two final units and culminating in a public exhibition of student work.
This course enables you to develop a strong portfolio of individual work to progress to higher education on a wide range of courses including fine art, fashion design, textile design, graphic design, illustration, photography or any other discipline that requires you to demonstrate your creative potential.
Entry Requirements
Most students will have completed a two year A Level programme including an Art and Design A Level, or a BTEC Diploma in Art and Design, Photography or Graphic Design. Alternatively, applicants are required to demonstrate their commitment and ability with a portfolio of work. A small number may have completed an AS Level programme before progressing to the foundation course.
Costs
There are no course fees for students under 19 years old, however, if you are over 19 then there will be a fee of around £2,500. You will need to buy some basic equipment plus sketchbooks at the beginning of the course which will cost about £60. There will be a studio fee to cover the cost of basic materials of £90 for the year*.

Career opportunities within the creative industries are many and varied. Many students progress to higher education and some seek direct employment immediately after the foundation course.
