The Programme
Personal Trainer is ideal for people who wish to become Personal Trainers and who wish to work towards improving clients well-being, through the provision of a planned personal exercise programme on a regular one to one or small group basis. It is also suitable for mature students who are already working as personal trainers but do not possess a nationally recognised qualification. The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in sports massage therapy is also studied on this course.
The Programme Content
The Personal Trainer course content covers anatomy and physiology, nutrition, programming and delivering personal training and health and safety. The Sports Massage element will provide learners with the understanding, skills and techniques to plan, prepare for and apply a range of sports massage methods to uninjured clients.
Entry Requirements
For this course you will need to be at least 17 years old and should have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths and English (equivalent qualifications and experience will be considered for mature students). The pre-entry requirement is a Level 2 Fitness Instructor. For students who do not have this qualification, there may be an opportunity to study for Gym Instructor whilst on the Personal Trainer course. You must be a regular participant in fitness sessions, especially gym, as the course is aimed at those who have experience in fitness.

Fees can be obtained on request for those over 19 years old.

Progression
On successful completion of the course you can apply for employment as a Personal Trainer in a leisure centre or health club, start your own business, or undertake further study in areas such as GP Referral or Cardiac Rehabilitation.
This course is not suitable for applicants straight from school. The course is a good progression for those who have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness course, A Levels, a BTEC National Qualification or mature students looking for a career change or professional development.
Length of Study
The whole course is studied 3 days per week for 32 weeks.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2012 / 2013 academic year.
Further Information
The Foundation Degree is very interesting and it covers a lot of sport; not just the science side but the coaching side as well. The lecturers do really well to motivate every individual.
