The Programme
This course is suitable for those who have a keen interest in English and History and who wish to study locally. Within a coherent programme there is a striking range of both subjects covered and teaching and assessment methods. Assessment will be through a mixture of essays, analytical papers, original writing, presentations and examinations.
The Programme Content
For English with history you will study three modules of English, one of history each year and one integrated module in addition to a module in developing graduate skills.
For history with English you will study three modules of history, one of English each year and one integrated module in addition to a module in developing graduate skills. At the end of the course you should be able to evaluate critically the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems in the fields of English and history.
English - The content of the modules studied provides knowledge and understanding of the literary genres of drama and poetry. We also focus on the literature of the USA within its social and cultural influences. The practical writing module introduces you to techniques of persuasive writing.

Entry Requirements
Applicants will ideally have 80 UCAS points and also hold a GCSE in English at grade C or equivalent. Mature students are also welcome with A Levels, access course, year zero or relevant experience. Individual circumstances will be considered at interview.
Costs
There is a cost for books of approximately £150 per year as well as educational trip costs. Students will be required to purchase their own USB memory sticks.*

Progression
Upon successful completion of the course you can progress onto the BA (Hons) in English Literature, BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) English with History or BA (Hons) History with English at Plymouth University. This course can also lead to careers in areas such as teaching, researching or working in the arts and heritage industries. Marketing, PR, human resources and retail management are also possibilities.
