The Programme

This is a very fast moving and demanding programme which requires you to link theory to practice both in college and during all of the block placements, as well as completing a professional practice portfolio.

The Programme Content

A wide variety of topics which relate to the theory and practice of children's care learning and development are covered in college, plus there is a requirement to satisfactorily complete 800 hours of assessed work experience. These together lead to being given a Licence to Practice as a Level 3 practitioner.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above (ideally including English, Maths and a science). You will need to show the interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively in placements for long blocks. Offers will be subject to satisfactory Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks.

Costs

A CRB check costs approximately £55. Although work placements are made with consideration to individual needs and transport routes, there may be costs involved for the students*.

Progression

Most students who gain this professional childcare qualification go straight into employment in nurseries, schools or as private nannies. Some students who have completed this course with the required UCAS points have progressed to higher education courses at Petroc and elsewhere.
