What is CERTIFICATE IN PROGRESSION LEVEL 2?

The Certificate in Progression (Level 2) is a stepping stone for anyone over 18 looking to study at university after a break in learning. Perhaps you went straight out to work after leaving school, you were starting a family, or perhaps at the time, the thought of continuing in education just didn't appeal. Whatever your reason for not continuing your studies previously, the Certificate in Progression provides you with an entry route back into education and prepares you for a full time Access to HE course that is recognised by UK universities.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone over the age of 18 who has ambitions to progress to studying a university degree, or simply wants to return to part time or full time education. You may have had a break in learning since you were last at school or college, but now want to resume your studies. You may feel that your qualifications are out of date or not relevant to what you want to study, or the idea of returning to the classroom for a full time course is too daunting or just too big a hurdle to start with. If you want to take a manageable step back on to the education ladder, then this course will help prepare you with study skills that will enable you to engage with learning on future courses.

What is the course content?

The Certificate for Progression (Level 2) is a pre-Access to HE course that will cover a broad range of academic skills and subjects. We will offer units in Study Skills, Personal Development, Academic Writing, Maths, IT and Biology. These will build a foundation of personal communication and study skills, embed principles for academic writing, refresh your understanding and use of numbers, help to develop modern research skills and introduce scientific principles through a science commonly studied by Access to HE students.

How will it be assessed?

The units on this Certificate will be primarily assessed through assignments or practical tasks. There may be some small tests or exams forming part of the assessment on some units, but they will not be the predominant method of assessment. Developing your exam study skills will be part of the skills-base we aim to develop to support you in your further studies.
