Which young people can I employ?
You may already be employing a young person who is not undergoing any formal training. You may want to take on a school leaver, keen to learn from scratch or sometimes your business may benefit from a young person who has already gained some knowledge and experience on a full time programme with the College. We can work with you to find the best solutions for your business. The majority of trainees will be between 16 and 18 years old and they must have completed their final year of schooling.
How long will the apprenticeship take?
"There is an investment in time but with the right training the apprentices become an asset to the company". Stephen Slee, Owner/Manager, Stephen Slee Ltd.
The length of time needed to complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship is usually between one and three years. This depends on the experience of the trainee and the occupational area undertaken, as well as the requirements of your business and the specific tasks the trainee will be carrying out. To achieve an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3), which further develops the knowledge and skills obtained at a Level 2, a maximum of four years of study in total will be required.
Please note that college staff will discuss the projected time span of the training with you at the start of the programme.
Where does the training take place?
Most of the training is 'on the job' in the trainee's place of work. The rest is provided in college or at one of our off site training centres, by qualified tutors and experienced practitioners. This usually takes place on a day or block release basis depending on the occupational area. This means that they either attend one day a week during term times or in blocks of one or more weeks at a time. This will often depend on the student's age and abilities.
Will there be a lot of work for me to set it up?
You employ the young person and ensure they have supervised guidance at work and we take care of the rest.
We can help you to:
- Identify suitable apprentices
- Carry out initial assessments and candidate interviews
- Liaise with college tutors to identify
"We would like to congratulate the College for their continued support in offering training in vocational fields which has enabled our apprentices to gain a respected qualification." Julie Brown, Diamond property Construction Ltd.
