Our motor vehicle section can offer a variety of technical programmes ranging from apprenticeships, technical certificates, NVQs, diagnostics skills, ATA and air conditioning. Our courses concentrate on practical application providing an opportunity for further development.

Advanced Diagnostics Using Oscilloscopes and Multi-Meters
This course will start with the basics of electricity and will include terminology, abbreviations and applications of Ohm's law. A range of test equipment will be discussed and methods of connecting to circuits.	Monday evenings	One evening	Barnstaple Campus	£80
Automotive Accreditation Scheme (ATA) Mechanical Electrical and Trim
This is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, who are committed to an ethical code of conduct. It has the backing of major vehicle manufacturers and related organisations.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year.	Two days	Barnstaple Campus	£700 plus registration fee of £55 Additional fee may be charged if the assessment is not passed on the first attempt.
Automotive Refrigerant Handling Award
From 4 July 2010, all Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) technicians working with cars and car derived vans, must have achieved, as a minimum requirement, a refrigerant handling qualification which fulfils the European Union F-Gas Regulation (EC842/2006).	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year.	Approximately 20 hours (dependent on prior knowledge). Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) Senior Paint Technician
The ATA scheme is based on National Occupational Standards to ensure that it meets the skill requirements of the retail motor industry. To achieve accreditation technicians must pass a series of practical assessments and an online knowledge test.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year.	One year	Braunton Road Campus, Barnstaple	£385 plus registration fee of £55 Additional cost may be charged if assessment is not passed on first attempt.
Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) Senior Panel Technician
The ATA is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, who are committed to an ethical code of conduct.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year.	Three days	Braunton Road Campus, Barnstaple	£1,050 plus registration fee of £55. Accommodation may also be required and is not included in the cost. Additional cost may be charged if assessment is not passed on first attempt.

The ATA is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry, who are committed to an ethical code of conduct. BTEC Award Level 2 in Transporting Passengers by Taxi and Private Hire
This course is a short programme of study that allows current or prospective drivers to develop their knowledge of licensing and regulatory requirements. It provides a job related qualification related to the taxi and private hire industry. Basic Vehicle Electrics and Electronics
This course covers the basics of electricity and will include terminology, abbreviations and applications of Ohm's law. Learners will cover simple circuits such as series and parallel and will also develop skills in using multi-meters.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year. Controller Area Networks (CAN BUS) Systems
This course covers the basics of digital and analogue signals that are used in vehicle systems. Technicians will learn basic digital principles such as binary, logic and CAN Bus signals along with how the signals are constructed.	Monday evenings	Three hours	Barnstaple Campus	£80
Engine Management Systems
This course will start with the basics of engine management and an overview of common systems. A range of input devices will be covered such as knock sensors, mass air flow and MAP sensors.	Flexible	Two evenings 6pm - 9pm	Barnstaple Campus	£150
Motor Vehicle Related Subjects - Covering Light Vehicle, MET, Body Repair and Refinishing NVQ
These courses are ideal for Technicians who want to gain a qualification that is relevant to their vocation. Candidates will be assessed in the workplace and will gather evidence to complete a portfolio.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year. Road Passenger Vehicle Driving NVQ 2
This course allows current drivers to develop their knowledge of licensing and regulatory requirements. It provides a job related qualification and assessment related to the taxi and private hire industry.	Flexible enrolment dates available throughout the year.	14 to 16 weeks depending on the individual learner. One hour tutorial sessions available if required.
