Engineering Education Scheme (new for 2011)
This project gives teams of 4 students an opportunity to work on real Engineering problems in local industry. This is a 6 month project starting in October and includes a 3 day residential workshop at South West University. Students will be expected to visit their assigned local company to discuss the company’s problem and then design and develop a solution to this problem in conjunction with the company, the University and Petroc Engineering Staff.
This scheme will give you a hands-on experience of working on real industrial problems with industry and academic Engineers and give you an insight into possible Engineering career opportunities. It is particularly beneficial to anyone thinking about an Engineering Degree or Career. This project can contribute towards a Duke of Edinburgh award, lead to a CREST Gold Award and gain an EES certificate. The skills developed during this project are highly sought after by Industry and Universities.
This scheme is open to year 12 students who are studying AS Maths or a similar technical subject or level 3 Diploma. You must have an interest in Engineering or Technology and be willing to work as part of a team.
Students will need to contribute £90 towards the cost of the University residential workshop and spend about 100 hours (2-3 hours per week) working on this project in their own time.
Testimonial
"Following my EESE project, I worked for the same company during my school holidays and when the time came to go to University, they offered me sponsorship. I started my first job as Production Engineer a week before graduation with my EESE/sponsor company."
