Children's author shares her secrets at Petroc Tiverton

Date: 6th January 2011

Tiverton-based children’s writer, Amy Sparkes is sharing her writing know-how through one of Petroc’s popular evening classes, this winter.

The author, whose works include the ‘Hodge the Hedgehog’ picture book and ‘Gruff’s Guides’ series for 4-8-year-olds, is currently finishing her first commissioned novel for older children.

She will be running the five-week course on Thursday evenings, starting on January 20.

“The course is for anyone who is interested in writing children’s stories, either hoping for publication or just writing for pleasure,” said Amy.

“The sessions include how to write picture books, junior fiction and novels for children, as well as how to approach publishers and agents.”

The ‘Writing Children’s Books’ course also ran last year with great success.

“We all enjoyed the course and I was pleased to be able to pass on my experience to help others develop their writing,” Amy added.

Amy has also had several magazine articles published and will be running another course, ‘How to write for magazines’ on Thursday evenings, from March 3 (more details are available here: http://www.petroc.ac.uk/what-we-do/courses/c293876259/how-to-write-for-magazines)
