Participants in the Ray Kenny Competition
A catering student from Petroc’s Tiverton Campus wowed the judges with her delicious desserts at a prestigious competition, last week.
Gemma Lock was runner up in the Ray Kenny Bursary Competition on Tuesday February 8. The NVQ3 student from Knowstone won £250.
It was the first year of the contest held after Ray – former chair of Governors at East Devon College – lost his long battle with cancer in 2007.
The competition was judged by a panel of four; including Hywel Jones, executive chef of Michelin starred Lucknam Park Hotel in Bath and Brian Turner, the successful chef, restaurateur and star of Ready Steady Cook, who Ray met whilst working at London’s Dorchester Hotel.
Petroc catering lecturer, Jim Smith said: “The event was a great success and really gave the students a chance to showcase their skills.”
