During the South West Regional heats of the Formula 1 in schools competition six students from Petroc were awarded the Best Rookie award as a new team and now travel to the national finals in London.

The Formula 1 in schools competition challenges teams to build a Formula 1 model car and race it down a 20m track in the fastest time possible. The competition is worldwide with schools and colleges competing in countries as far away as Australia.

Students had to put all their teamwork, design, construction and engineering skills together to rise to the challenge which took place this week at Exeter University.

The next step is heading to The Big Bang Fair at the London Excel centre for the National finals in March.

The team would like to thank DS&B Engineering and the STEM Project for their support to get them through to this point and ask if anyone would like to help sponsor their team to get to the national finals and perhaps the world final! If anyone can offer any assistance then please get in contact with lecturer Mark Holbourn by e-mail on mark.holbourn@petroc.ac.uk.

If you are interested in Engineering and Design at Petroc, please call the Guidance Centre on 01271 338125.
