New Gap Year Fair at Petroc Tiverton

Date: 1st March 2011

Anyone can find out more about opportunities to enjoy incredible adventures overseas at Petroc’s first ever Gap Year Fair on Wednesday March 23.

Sponsored by Mind The Gap Year (MTGY), the inspirational event at the college’s Tiverton Campus is aimed at helping them choose the right experience.

Around 20 organisations will be there to share their expertise, along with Scottish teacher and explorer Neal Gwynne who will talk about his experiences of travelling and climbing in Afghanistan.

“Many people think of taking some time out and want to experience something new, and they’d be joining nearly a quarter of other young people that take a pre-university gap year every year,” said the fair’s organiser, Petroc’s Sam Medcraft.

“Others take time out after school, college, university or work and every year this number increases with people taking a gap year to do a variety of different activities such as voluntary work, travelling and extreme sports.

“There are some fantastic organisations attending our event this year and they can’t wait to give you information, answer any questions and show you how you can have an amazing experience.”

Petroc’s Gap Year Fair is open to everyone and some of the organisations attending are:
* Personal Overseas Development
* Global Vision International
* BSES
* Lattitude
* Conservation Africa
* Outreach International
* Mind The Gap Year
* A Venture
* Oyster Worldwide
* Dorset Expeditionary Society
* Oasis Overland
* Coral Cay
* Project Trust
* Frontier
* Projects Abroad
* The Leap Overseas
* Visitoz
* Blue Ventures

The event will include a series of talks from several organisations including Global Vision International, Conservation Africa, Oyster Worldwide and Mind The Gap Year.

And Neal Gwynne will talk about his five week expedition through the Pamir-i-Wakhan mountain range in Afghanistan. It is believed that he was among one of the first climbers to reach the interior range west of the Wakhjir River and this talk tells the story of their incredible experience.

This event is at Petroc Tiverton, Bolham Road on Wednesday March 23, from 12.30 to 6.30pm and everyone is welcome.
