The radio station is run by the students and broadcasts live across the main Barnstaple Campus. After hearing about the possibility of accessing funds for equipment, the students worked together to put in the bid.

“It took several months of hard work and lots of e-mails,” said 18 year old Matthew Palmer from Barnstaple.

“It was worth it though as Fresh FM is much improved in terms of quality and getting out to more students.”

The equipment was kindly supplied and installed by Westcountry Broadcast Ltd, a local Bideford based company. They have been involved in the radio station since it was first set up ten years ago.

The new equipment includes a replacement FM transmitter, an upgrade of the Autoplus software used for music playout, major expansion of speakers in the restaurant and refreshment areas relaying Fresh FM to students, staff and visitors plus a refurbishment of the studio with new technical furniture manufactured by Westcountry Broadcast.

There are now plans to reach students based at the other Petroc campuses in Barnstaple to help widen the audience.
