Top British designer turned sustainability guru, Wayne Hemingway, is one of the guest speakers at a major event organised by Petroc on Thursday June 30, 2011.

The Red or Dead founder will deliver ‘The Creative Solution – exploring opportunities in a flat economy’ as part of Petroc’s ‘Futureproof your Business’ conference at the Saunton Sands Hotel.

Since selling his fashion label, Wayne has switched to social housing, working with local authorities to regenerate the built environment in urban and coastal communities.

“We’re delighted that one of the country’s best-known and best-loved designers is able to join us,” said the event’s organiser and LSIS (Learning Skills Improvement Service) South West STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) champion, Cerian Ayres.

“He was a firebrand in the world of fashion and his inspirational approach to design continues in his work with social housing and a myriad of other projects, from pop-up shops to the Goodwood Vintage Festival.

“We’re looking forward to him sharing his insights, vision and wit with businesses, educators and learning communities from all over the region.”

‘Futureproof your Business’ is a free event, open to business people who want to learn more about the benefits of thinking and acting with sustainable practises – in particular economic sustainability –  in mind.

Other speakers include IKEA UK’s environmental manager, Charlie Browne, Biosphere Reserve Coordinator, Andrew Bell and the Chairman of the North Devon Biosphere Reserve Partnership, Dr Mike Moser.

Petroc has organised the event as part of its role as the LSIS South West regional STEM centre. The college is championing excellence in science, technology, engineering and maths teaching and learning across the region.

‘Futureproof your Business’ runs from 1.30-5.45pm, including afternoon tea. Places are still available, so if you would like to attend, please e-mail Lisa Roberts on roberts391@btinternet.com
