Petroc praised for young people's health services
Petroc’s health services for young students have been given the Government seal of approval.
Following the Tiverton Campus’s successful ‘You’re Welcome’ accreditation in April, the Barnstaple Campus has also clinched the accolade.
The awards reflect The Department of Health’s quality criteria for young people friendly health services.
And college nurse Cathy Pearce said: “It is a real acknowledgement of the work that we do at Petroc to support our learners.
“You’re Welcome is a practical benchmark that we can use to measure the quality of service we provide for young people.
“Having flexible services in an environment which fits in well with young people’s means that young people can access services at times and places that fit with their daily activities and is in an environment that is young-people centred.”
Many young people in Devon travel long distances to Barnstaple or Tiverton to study at college, so the services Petroc provides are often their only option.
“Effective partnership with the NHS Devon and Petroc helps all key stakeholders achieve better outcomes for young people,” Cathy added.
“Petroc is well placed to build young people’s confidence in accessing health service both on and off site.
“This can help de-mystify what happens in clinics and can overcome barriers of fear and stigma that young people experience.”
