Petroc Netball Academy retain the U19 County Schools title in a tournament held in Paignton.
Petroc Netball Academy retained the U19 County Schools title on Saturday in a tournament held in Paignton. The team who are sponsored by Subway will now represent Devon at the U19 Regional Schools Tournament which is being held in Bournemouth on 28 January 2012.
Petroc started their group matches well with a 13-4 win over Stoodleigh Knowle in which all players in the squad took to the court. An 8-8 draw against an athletic Ivybridge College team followed, and although Petroc lacked patience and control they fought hard to earn the draw after being 3-5 down at half time. In their next two group matches Petroc beat Kings School 17-3 and Exeter School 16-4. Placings in the group were decided on goal average as Ivybridge College had also won their other group matches. Consequently, Petroc went into the semi-finals as group winners and met West Buckland School who they defeated 14-4. In the final Petroc met Exeter College. Petroc started the final superbly and went 5-0 up and at half time were leading 8-3. A controlled second half saw Petroc hold onto their lead to win 14-11. Player of the Tournament was Laura Short.
Petroc Academy Team: Rebecca Priest (Captain), Stephanie Batstone, Mollie Gilbert, Rhea Golland, Amber Manley, Rosie Norton, Rachel Russell, Laura Short, Louisa Wilson, Gracey Woolway.
