Students from Petroc successfully completed a Business Enterprise Challenge, last week (November 2011).

125 Business Diploma learners from courses, at levels one, two and three, formed teams to develop an environmentally sustainable product, that incorporated principles of recycling, all within a local context.

The winning team (pictured) was selected by an invited panel of experts from a range of local companies.

Jane Mcleod, centre manager at Atlantic Village, was supported by Earl Napier, Darren Smith, Sue Boundy, Paula Byers and Phil Hoare. They chose the winning team for their innovative product design, excellent team work and polished presentation skills.

“Every presentation was innovative and well researched” said Jane.

“I was so impressed with the calibre of entrants and how the teams had pulled together to create their presentations.”

The winning idea looked to develop hydro-electricity by harnessing roof run-off water as it cascades through drainage pipes. Petroc lecturer and the event’s organiser, Andrew Penfold said: “The standard of all participants this year was exceptional.

“All participants are to be congratulated for excellent team working skills; however the winning team really did impress.”
