A trade and training event at Petroc attracted interest from both students and employers this week, who came to the college to watch demonstrations from industry experts and network with a wide variety of local tradespeople.
Visitors had the opportunity to get involved, as trade stands were offering a variety of activities, such as nail gun training and window fitting, as well as power tool demonstrations.
Over 50 exhibitors were at the event, including RGB, Taylors and Jewsons, offering advice to visitors and showcasing their services.
Mark Gosney, Taylor’s Commercial Manager, was pleased to have the chance to reach potential employees and customers.
“We’re here to show our support for the college. As a local business, it’s important we buy into events like this to reach our future customers,” said Mark.
“It’s been great to see tutors committing to the event and bringing their students along to watch demonstrations and talk to experts in the field they are studying in,” he added.
Louise Blatherwick, an Employer Liaison Officer at the College, agreed: “This event has been a really positive experience for the students. They’ve been able to interact with the experts and have a go at loads of different activities.”
“I think the students have really benefitted from talking to all the exhibitors and finding out what career options are out there,” said Louise.
“I’d particularly like to thank Screwfix, Edmunsons, Beta and Chillcheater, who all donated prizes for the draw,” Louise added.
