14 - 16 Learners
Welcome to the 14-16 section of the Petroc website. If you are looking for further information for certificated programmes please read on, or click on Youth Academy for information on programmes outside school hours.
We have a range of certificated programmes on offer at Petroc and for the last 10 years we have worked with local partner schools to offer additional vocational subjects which are studied at college. Our programmes are run on one day per week during year 10 and 11 and offer the opportunity for learners to engage in practical activities and achieve qualifications, effectively giving you a head start for your future.
Studying one of our courses is a great opportunity for you to develop new practical skills and increase confidence in a different environment to school. Courses are offered in a range of subject areas:
- Building Craft Occupations
- Catering and Hospitality
- Hairdressing & Beauty
- Motor Vehicle
- Public Services
- Society, Health & Development
Depending on the subject, you will be taught in a variety of different styles. These include practical 'hands-on' sessions, one-to-one learning, group learning, demonstrations, videos, workbooks and portfolio building. You will learn practical skills within facilities that are industry standard and gain qualifications that are nationally recognised and relevant to potential employers.
The course can be used alongside your GCSE's for any further study or job applications.
If your school agrees that you can come on one of these courses, you will be asked to complete an application form. This will be sent to the college along with a school reference. Shortly afterwards you will be invited for a taster session and finally for an interview.
Transport arrangements vary from school to school some will bring you to college as a group, while others will ask you to make your own way.
Interested….What to do next?
To register your interest in any of our 14-16 courses, don’t delay, talk to your Head of Year at School. For any college related questions, please email sarah.chard@petroc.ac.uk
