The 16 to 19 tuition fund is £96 million of one-off funding for the 2020 to 2021 academic year only. It is ring-fenced funding to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).
Petroc is in receipt of some of these funds and intends to use the funding to support eligible students as follows:
1. The development of a Learning to Learn programme which will be available to all learners aged 16-19 on a study programme who did not achieve a grade 4 or above in either English or Maths at age 16. This will be extended to those who did not achieve grade 5 or above in either subject where funds will allow.
The programme will provide learners on a Level 2 study programme access to additional sessions (around 20 hours) to provide catch up support specific to their programme of study. This may include subject-specific support and study skills as well as English & Maths support. It will also provide those on a Level 3 programme access to around 10 hours of support. Learners will receive the support in small groups of up to five.
2. The implementation of a peer to peer mentoring support network and a live chat facility to enable those eligible students to access further support both with their studies and emotionally to help them catch up.
3. The availability of further English & Maths support sessions for vulnerable learners.
