16-18 Transition

Course Code:
Mid Devon Campus
One year

The transition programme offers personalised learning for those young adults who have an identified learning disability and need additional support. The course is designed to develop personal and social skills, skills for independence in the local community, offer vocational options, and to ultimately enable progression to employment and independent living.

Students have the opportunity to work in our social enterprises, developing skills for life and employment with a chance to experience working in the real life environment of a busy student-run café.

The course offers the opportunity for individuals to work in small, supported tutor groups. Importantly, learning programmes are matched to individual needs with nationally recognised qualifications.

Students are actively involved in the enterprise curriculum of the department and where practical skills are delivered they are embedded with functional English, Maths and IT skills.

This course offers learners, who have learning disabilities, personalised programmes within Foundation Learning at entry with progression to Level 1, with programmes being matched to the individual progression pathway.
You will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to show achievements for unit tasks.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, an informal interview and EHCP is essential.
On successful completion of the course, students can continue to follow their personal pathway on a course in a vocational area, apprenticeship or employment. If it is identified as appropriate to continue within supported learning, progression to the employment skills course, Project LIFE, may be possible and potentially a place on our PETROC supported internship programme.
The foundation area provides small group learning opportunities for learners who have a recognised learning difficulty with additional learning needs. Students are supported within the classroom and are under discrete supervision at break times.
