An architectural Apprentice will enjoy, one day a week, learning a wide variety of skills and knowledge related to the role of architectural technician in college.
You will learn how to draw to professional standards, how the design process works and how the design team works together.
You will design your own buildings and show your creations using CAD programmes.
The programme consists of experience gained in the workplace, the collection of evidence from the workplace into a portfolio for a General Pathway NVQ level 3 (you will complete the design and architectural relevant elements of this), and a technical certificate consisting of the Diploma in Construction Level 3.
Apprentices will be taught about construction methods and have the opportunity to design their own buildings and show their creations using CAD programmes. This will give you a BTEC Diploma in Construction, at the same time you will be working in an architectural practise learning on the job, building up actual work experience in your chosen vocational route. Through work experience you will be able to achieve an NVQ in Architectural Technician work.The Diploma in Construction will cover the following units: Health and Safety; Construction and the Environment; Construction Technology; Design Technology; Maths in Construction; Surveying; Graphical Design; Building Services; Science of Human Comfort.
The technical part of the apprenticeship is assessed through a level 3 BTEC in Construction which is 100% course work assignments. The NVQ part of the framework is assessed through the gathering of evidence of activities carried out in the workplace.
You must be employed in the relevant industry. Grade C in English and Maths, plus three other GCSE qualifications at grade C or above, alternatively an appropriate/relevant and completed level 2 apprenticeship.
Once you have gained your advanced apprenticeship you could progress to the day release programme and do your HNC level 4 in Construction.
