Consutruction Multi-Trades - Level 1 - Full-time (Mid Devon)

This gateway course gives learners a broad introduction to the construction industry and will prepare learners to choose a trade they would like to pursue.
The programme is designed to develop skills and knowledge in a variety of trades in the construction industry such as Carpentry, Brickwork, Plastering and Painting and Decorating.
Work experience is an essential part of this course and supports the learners to progress to apprenticeships.
This qualification covers the following practical areas:
- painting and decorating.
All aspects of the programme will be studied through both classroom-based theory sessions and practical-based workshop sessions.
Your study programme will include tutorial sessions and work experience. You will also study Maths and English if a GCSE at grade 5/4 or above has not previously been achieved in these subjects.
The majority of assessments are practical and are conducted in trade specific workshops.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent or above, preferably including Maths and English.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 3 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 1 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
On completion of this Diploma, you may progress to an apprenticeship on your chosen trade or the Level 2 Maintenance Operations programme.
A kit list will be provided during interview, which will show a list of stationery, books and other materials required.
Safety boots are mandatory. along with a second pair of shoes to change into outside the workshop

Q: Is there any equipment needed to participate on this course?
A: Safety clothing including boots and overalls need to be purchased by the student. Students are also required to provide their own stationery and textbooks, a full equipment list will be provided at interview.
Q: Are there any costs for this course?
A: Students are asked to pay a contribution towards materials and learning resources used in workshops and classrooms. There may also be trips throughout the year which may incur a cost. If you are a 19+ learner there may be course fees, unless you are eligible for a remission.
