Assistant Accountant - Apprenticeship (Standard)

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of their role will involve assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements.
This level 3 apprenticeship could find you working in an accounts department helping a business or organisation manage their money properly.
As part of this apprenticeship you will cover all of the following aspects that are required of an accountant:
- Business Awareness
- IT Systems and Processes
- Ethical Standards
- Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Management Accounting
- Problem Solving
- Personal Accountability
- Team working and Collaboration
Your employer will be required to permit you 20% of your employed time doing 'off-the-job training' as set out by the government - this covers elements such as practical training; shadowing, mentoring, industry visits, attendance at competitions etc.
College attendance one day per week (term time only) covers some of this and the rest will be evidenced within the workplace.
There is a series of exams in relation to the Diploma in AAT as well as End Point Assessment as specified by the Apprenticeship Standard.
You must be employed in the relevant industry.
You should have grade 4/5 or above in English and Maths, plus three other GCSE qualifications. Alternatively you can have achieved an appropriate/relevant Level 2 apprenticeship.
As well as ensuring full competency as an Assistant Accountant, this standard provides the foundation for progression into a number of career paths in the Accounting sector including Audit Trainee, Corporate Recovery Analyst, Credit Controller or Tax Accountant.
The apprentice will have full access to the college facilities.
