Beauty Therapy Technical Certificate - Level 2

On this study programme, you will learn the creative skills of a beauty therapist, including manicure, pedicure, gel nail polish application, facial skincare, eyelash and brow treatments, make-up, waxing, spray tanning.
You'll also have the chance to use your skills in a real-life salon environment with paying clients and undertake reception duties.
Learn the initial practical skills needed to start you on the way into a rewarding and varied career as a beauty therapist.
You will learn all about the skills needed to be able to deliver professional treatments for clients. You will initially practise on each other and then move on to working on paying clients.
Areas covered include:
- Gel nail polish application
- Facial skincare
- Eyelash and brow treatments
- Spray tanning
Alongside each skill area you will taught the background theory, relating to health and safety, client care, selling and anatomy and physiology of the body.
You will be taught by industry professional staff within our new modern commercial salons.
You will be assessed through a two hour external theory examination taken in March (retake in June) and a one day - 6 hour, practical examination, moderated externally by the awarding body. This practical will cover the main range of treatments including facials, waxing, gel polish, pedicure, consultation and client care.
Throughout the qualification, you will be working on the development of your employability skills as well as your upgrading your Maths and English if required.
Four D's at GCSE to include English & Maths
A qualification in English at GCSE grade C/4 and above is preferable
In order to be a fully qualified beauty therapist you will need to go on to study a Level 3 Diploma in Beauty and Spa. You may also choose an alternative route in specialist qualifications such as Level 2 certificate in Makeup artistry or level 3 Diploma in Nail technology. The beauty therapy industry is wide and varied, so therapists often carry on training in other fields such as micropigmentation, sports massage and other specialist treatments.
Our Lifestyle Centre is home to our state-of-the-art nail bar, hair salon, beauty salon, tanning room, spa room (including sauna, steam room and jacuzzi), make-up room and training salons.
You will need to bring your GCSE results, a pen, notepad and lunch money.
You will be required to purchase a uniform (approx. £50) and a kit (approx. £250).

Q: Will I have to wear a uniform?
A: On your first day, you will come in your own clothes, you will then be expected to wear your uniform in salon.
