The Level 2 bench joinery course helps candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and career progression in bench joinery.

There are seven units, including:

- Health and safety
- Knowledge of information
- Building methods and technology
- Setting out details
- Marking out
- Manufacture of joinery products
- Safe use of a circular saw.

All units will be assessed for knowledge by question and answer on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system. Synoptic practical assessments will take place to check that you have acquired the strict criteria in practical activities.

You will have the opportunity to develop your Maths and English skills if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 5/4 in these areas.
There will be a set of tests on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for each unit and a final synoptic practical assignment.
Successful completion of the Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery course, or equivalent experience.
Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to a Level 3 course in Joinery or to an Apprenticeship. You may also be interested in progressing to another course within architecture and construction.
Theory sessions are taught in fully-equipped classrooms with smart boards and other teaching and learning devices. We have three specialist carpentry workshops which are used to deliver the practical training.
Please bring work boots, writing equipment and your carpentry book.
Safety clothing including boots and overalls need to be purchased by the student.
Students are required to provide their own stationery and textbooks, a full equipment list will be provided at interview.
Students are asked to pay a contribution towards materials and learning resources used in workshops and classrooms.
There may be trips throughout the year which may incur a cost.
