FAQs

Many job roles involve interaction with customers, clients or colleagues to inform, advise or guide them, and there are many techniques it is important to be aware of in order to carry this out effectively.

Unit 1 - Information, advice or guidance in practice
Unit 2 - Developing interaction skills for information, advice or guidance

In these two units you will learn how to interact with clients by using effective communication techniques. You will develop awareness of how values, attitudes and beliefs can affect interactions with clients and understand the importance of confidentiality and impartiality. You will develop your own interaction skills by evaluating your strengths and areas for development. You will consider the scope of provision and types of information, advice or guidance and be aware of boundaries in your own job role.

Unit 3 - Signposting and referral in information, advice or guidance
Unit 4 - Information, advice or guidance in context
Unit 4 - Skills for advice providers

In these units you will look more closely at information, advice or guidance in the context of your work role. You will need to think about the barriers and challenges that can face the individual clients you work with. You will look at signposting and referral and consider times when it is appropriate to signpost or refer clients to other organisations. You will need to be aware of the policies and procedures in your own organisation. You will also look at ways of managing information, including storage and retrieval, and how to comply with the law.
Each unit has short answer question assessments. Assessments are completed paper-based.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. This is a knowledge based qualification and requires a good level of literacy, reading and writing.

Learners must be over 19 and resident in the UK or EU country for at least 3 years.
You can enrol onto other Level 2 subject specific qualifications within the sector or progress onto higher level courses.
You will receive a study pack which contains your learning resources, study plan, study guide and how to access the online assessment platform. If you want to complete paper-based assessment you will have the option to request these when you enrol.
This is a distance / home study course, so you can study at your own pace and at a time to suit you. A subject specialist tutor will be allocated to you and you can email them should you have any questions relating to your course.

It is important that you can work independently and be dedicated to set time aside each week for your studies, we recommend that you allow a minimum of 4 to 6 hours a week. Remember that your study time counts towards your CPD - Continuing Professional Development.

There is no cost for this qualification. However, if you do not complete your course inside the agreed timescale without a valid reason there will be a charge of £100.
