The Summer Ambitions Academy is a two week programme for Year 11 students transitioning to Petroc, who plan to progress to University. The learning experiences include a range of activities that will enhance knowledge and skills to improve academic success as well as helping you learn skills that will improve resilience and promote independent living.
If you are an ambitious young person, this is the programme for you.
The Summer Ambitions Academy is aimed at increasing the ambition of school leavers, especially those who plan to progress to University. The programme will be taught by Petroc lecturers and will involve a range of experts from the community delivering an interesting and exciting experience.
The programme will include University lectures on Management and Leadership, Psychology, and how to improve your grades from A to A*. You will have an opportunity to hone your science skills with a 'Science on the Beach day', which will include carrying out practical scientific experiments.
There will be workshops on improving your report writing and presentation skills and you will also acquire skills to improve your independence - like basic cooking and servicing your car.
You will re-create a major incident with the emergency services to learn what you should do if you are first on the scene - this will include basic first aid. The programme also includes a visit to Plymouth University to understand the requirements of University and what it will be like to live in a city.
The timetable has been designed to ensure you can attend school to receive your GCSE results as well as any introductory days at Petroc.
If you are planning to go to University at the end of your course at Petroc this is a programme for you.
The first day will be an introductory day with team building activities.
