All businesses require Business and Administration skills and processes. Without administrators, information would be hard to find, meetings would be missed and businesses would be less productive. The role of the administrator can vary from business to business. Administration roles are an excellent starting point to move into management once more experience has been gained. This is a combined diploma allowing you to prove knowledge as well as that all important competence within that sector. You will be supported to gain the required work experience to complement this day release course. Successful completion will prove your knowledge and experience - supporting employment progression.

This sort of work requires a strong sense of responsibility, accuracy and attention to detail. Work Experience opportunities will provide the reference and experience that employers are asking for.


You will attend college one day per week and will be taught the theoretical element and produce work packs to support this. The optional units are chosen dependent on your role within your work experience placement. You will be assessed in the work place on a regular basis to prove your competence. Support given to obtain relevant work experience or utilise current opportunities you maybe involved in.

The Diploma requires learners to successfully achieve a minimum of 45 credits. These credits will be completed, through the achievement of the six mandatory units (21 credits) and the remaining 24 credits will be taken from the optional group. This qualification has been produced to meet the changing requirements of learners and employers as it offers both competency and knowledge.

The topics covered in the mandatory unit group include:

- Communication in a business environment
- Principles of providing administrative services
- Principles of business document production and information management
- Understand employer organisations
- Manage personal performance and development
- Develop working relationships with colleagues

These are taught in college environment and have assignments to complete.

There are also optional units which include topics such as:
- Manage diary systems
- Produce business documents
- Collate and report data
- Maintain and issue stationery and supplies
- Administer human resource records
- Buddy a colleague to develop their skills

*This is not a full list and there are plenty of options available. These will need to be assessed within a relevant workplace setting.
This qualification is assessed in the workplace and at college through completion of a portfolio of evidence which will be internally assessed and internally quality assured. The learner will need to demonstrate what they've learnt using both practical and knowledge assessments, and a mixture of online testing.
Willingness to carry out some regular relevant work experience.
This course could lead on to Higher Apprenticeships or management qualifications. All our students either have secured full time employment or promotion.
