North Devon Campus
Starts 12th May 2020 - 11 weeks
The Introduction to Counselling Skills will give you insight into counselling work. The course will give you the life skills and an insight into whether you wish to train to become a counsellor.
Over the sessions we aim to teach you good listening and communication skills which will be useful to you in your relationships with partners, family, work colleagues and friends.
Enhance your emotional and social skills helping you to understand yourself and your relationships more clearly.
Please note you will be required to attend a Saturday session on 29 June for 6 hours.
The course covers looking at yourself and raising awareness on how to communicate with others and how this links with the way other people communicate with you.
You will be mostly trained in small groups and build a portfolio consisting of work that shows your understanding of what has been covered in class and personal reflections on what you have learned about yourself.
Your portfolio will be internally assessed and a minimum 80% attendance is required. There is no formal external assessment.
You must be 17 or over and have basic computer skills, access to a printer and a working email account.
It is possible to continue onto the certificate in Counselling Skills Level 2 followed by the Certificate in Counselling Studies Level 3 before completing the Counselling Diploma Level 4, subject to an interview at each of these levels.
