Diploma in Art & Design - Level 2 - Full-time - (Mid Devon)
Mid Devon Campus
No matter which areas of art and design that stimulate your creativity, you will really enjoy this thoroughly practical study programme where you can explore and develop your skills in a range of art and design activities.
Your work will displayed as part of our annual Art exhibition.
This qualification gives you the freedom to develop your own individual ideas and prepare a portfolio of work for progression. The programme is made up of a range of general art and design and some specialist units.
All students will do the core units that explore these areas:
- 2D & 3D materials and techniques
- Researching artists' work
- Developing ideas and producing finished work.
Beyond that, you will be able to explore two more specialist units.
You will be given regular feedback about how you are progressing and you will receive either Pass, Merit or Distinction grades for each unit, and also for the overall qualification.
There is no examination for this course as it is continuously assessed and externally moderated.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
You will be required to bring a portfolio of work to your interview.
Completing this course successfully earns the equivalent of four GCSEs at grade 9-5/4.
Most of our students who are thinking about some aspect of art and design as a career, will choose to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design here at Petroc, as the gateway to Higher Education and the world of employment and apprenticeships.
The course is based in our purpose-built art department, with darkrooms, print room, a mac suite and an open-plan art room. Specialist equipment is available to all students including cameras and most art and design studio equipment.
You will be charged £30 per term (£90 per year) studio fee.
You will need to provide your own Art kit with the basics to complete a course in Art e.g. Sketch books, watercolours etc¿
