If you have completed a creative GCSE at school but didn’t get the grades you were expecting, or if you need to retake your Maths or English alongside a course, then this is the full time level 2 creative course for you.

Our Level 2 Diploma is taught in a supportive and lively studio atmosphere, where you will soon discover new skills and brush up on your existing talent.
The course has no exams and you’ll experiment with materials and techniques from disciplines as diverse as Drawing, Painting, Fashion, Animation, Printing, Graphics, Illustration, Photography, Textiles and 3D, to name but a few.
Our dedicated and enthusiastic team of industry experienced lecturers will introduce you to concepts and artists that will inspire your creative journey and challenge the way you create, think and write about art.
This inspiring course is an opportunity to gain confidence and progress onto our level 3 Diploma the following year.
If you want the opportunity to gain new skills and develop your confidence whilst completing your Maths or English, then the journey starts here!
You will be given regular feedback about how you are progressing and you will receive either Pass, Merit or Distinction grades for each unit, and also for the overall qualification. There is no examination for this course as it is continuously assessed and externally moderated.
All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths and English at grade 3 or above.
Entrants who do not have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects.
At the end of the year, you are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of your Level 2 Study Programme and improved your Maths and English skills before progressing to your next course.
You will be required to bring a portfolio of work to your interview.
Most of our students who are thinking about some aspect of art and design as a career, will choose to progress to the Extended Diploma in Art and Design here at Petroc, as the gateway to Higher Education and the world of employment and apprenticeships.
The course is based in our purpose-built art department, with darkrooms, print room, a mac suite and an open-plan art room. Specialist equipment is available to all students including cameras and most art and design studio equipment.
You will be charged £30 per term (£90 per year) studio fee.
You will need to provide your own Art kit with the basics to complete a course in Art e.g. Sketch books, watercolours etc…

Q: Can I study GCSE Maths and English alongside this course?
A: If you have not achieved a grade 4 or higher in maths or English, this course is timetabled to facilitate study of GCSE maths and English alongside.
Q: What happens if I need help with my assignments?
A: All learners are given regular 1:1 support from their lecturers. In addition, study hall/workshops are arranged throughout the year, these sessions will be used to support learners in completing assignments.
Q: Is the course delivered on every day of the week?
A: We make every effort to timetable over four days to enable students to complete work experience alongside their studies.
